The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is fast approaching, scheduled to take place from February 19 to March 9. India will play their first match against Bangladesh on February 20 in Dubai. This tournament is one of the most anticipated events in international cricket, and the Indian team is gearing up to perform at its best. India has announced its 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025, scheduled to begin on February 20, 2025.
Who Will Open for India in Champions Trophy 2025?
India’s captain Rohit Sharma is a certain choice for one of the opening spots. His vast experience and ability to deliver under pressure make him a reliable presence at the top. Alongside Rohit, all signs point to Shubman Gill, a talented young player who has consistently performed well in One Day Internationals (ODIs).
The combination of Rohit and Gill has worked well in recent matches. Their partnership has provided stability at the start of the innings, which is crucial in tournaments like the Champions Trophy. Their ability to build strong opening stands makes them the most likely candidates for the top order in India’s lineup.
Backup Option: Yashasvi Jaiswal
If circumstances require a change in the opening lineup, Yashasvi Jaiswal could step in as a strong backup. Jaiswal has shown great potential in Test cricket and T20Is, proving he can handle high-pressure situations. Though he has not yet debuted in ODIs, his performances in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and T20 series highlight his readiness for bigger challenges.
Including Jaiswal in the squad provides India with a flexible and dependable alternative for the opening role. His presence strengthens the depth of the team and prepares India for any unexpected scenarios during the tournament.
