During the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Bumrah felt discomfort in his back, which forced him to miss the second innings of the Sydney Test. A source close to the BCCI said, “The selectors know it will be a miracle if Bumrah turns up 100% fit in the given timeline.” With the Champions Trophy just weeks away, the selectors have until February 11 to make any changes to the squad if needed.

Because of the uncertainty around Bumrah’s recovery, the Indian selectors are looking at other options. Harshit Rana has been added to the squad for the first two ODIs against England. If Bumrah does not regain full fitness, Rana could stay in the team as a replacement.
